Nosara: A Sense of Community
Veranillo de San Juan. As summer peaks, Nosara experiences the "Veranillo de San Juan," a weather phenomenon characterized by a brief dry spell in the middle of the rainy season. This period typically lasts a few days to a couple of weeks, offering a welcome break from the regular rains and providing perfect conditions for outdoor activities. Today, Nosara is renowned for its diverse offerings. Surfers flock to the area for its consistent waves, with recent surf reports indicating excellent conditions at Playa Guiones. Birding enthusiasts can explore the rich avian biodiversity, and one of our favorite is to plant a tree with Costas Verde on the beaches of Guiones.
This Saturday, Costas Verde is continuing its tradition of environmental stewardship by planting 475 trees at Guiones Beach. Costas Verdes is a Costa Rican non-profit organization that has been restoring coastal ecosystems devastated from past human impact, by leading and executing reforestation projects and empowering local communities since 2009.. Over the years, Costas Verde has planted thousands of trees, contributing significantly to the area's reforestation efforts. Get Involved. For those looking to immerse themselves in Nosara's vibrant community, volunteer opportunities abound. Joining initiatives like Costas Verde's tree planting event or participating in WCA’S allows everyone to give back and make a meaningful impact.
Embracing Sustainability. One of the defining characteristics of Nosara is its commitment to community and sustainability.. The Wildlife Conservation Association mission is to protect the Ostional Refuge through research, community involvement, & education for sustainable wildlife coexistence.
For nearly 50 years, the NCA has contributed greatly to the community of Nosara in matters of community planning, biodiversity conservation and citizen empowerment. The Goal for 2024 is to preserve the private reserve (250 hectares of forest) to a state-regulated National Wildlife Refuge.
The Blue Zone of Nicoya in Nosara is renowned for its residents' exceptional longevity and health, attributed to a lifestyle rich in physical activity, a plant-based diet, strong social connections, and a deep sense of purpose.
