Game, Set, Longevity
I started playing tennis at age 4. For any of you that know my mother -- you know one of her secrets to life is her love of tennis. Doug says, “They should study your mother -- what is her secret to longevity at age 93?” One of my favorite photos is of her talking to the Bryan Brothers at the Rodney Street Tennis Fundraiser at Dupont Country Club. She was still on the dance floor at 9pm --- enjoying the sound of the Bryan Brothers band.
Tennis teaches me about perseverance, strategy, and the joy of competition. It's where friendships are forged and memories are made. My father would tell me the court isn't just a battleground; it's a classroom. It teaches us to play the game of life with passion, purpose, and a whole lot of joie de vivre.
The bottom line is playing tennis extends one's life expectancy by 9.7 years. According to the USTA, U.S. tennis participation grew by 1 million players in 2022 with more than 23.6 million playing the sport–the third consecutive year that the sport has seen an increase.
After spending six incredible days in the heart of New York, the energy of New York City is alive, and the passion for tennis is at its peak. Every year, the tennis world converges on New York for the US Open, where passion, skill, and the pursuit of excellence take center stage. But beyond the thrilling matches and epic rivalries, there's always several unique stories that unfold on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows. This year we celebrate seven incredible years of making the annual tennis pilgrimage to the iconic US Open together. Our journey combines the love of tennis with a passion for travel through a tennis lens.
The Blue Zone Connection: The US Open may seem a world away from the tranquil Blue Zones where longevity is celebrated. However, the principles that underpin a life well-lived in Blue Zones—such as a strong sense of community, healthy diet, and daily physical activity—are mirrored in the lives of tennis players. The Age-Defying Champions: Their stories are not just tales of athletic prowess but also of dedication, perseverance, and a genuine love for the sport. Passion is the secret ingredient that fuels the longevity of tennis players. It's what motivates them to train relentlessly, recover diligently, and step onto the court with a fire in their hearts year after year. They say find what you love and let it become your life. For me, that's tennis!
